X-ray Laser Group

Study outline

X-ray Laser Group had developed a high-power laser system utilizing zigzag-slab amplifier as an X-ray laser driver. The developed laser system is named TOPAZ (Twin Optical Amplifiers using Zigzag slab) and the zigzag-slab amplifier was installed unique cooling systems to obtain 0.1 Hz operation (10 seconds for 1 shot). TOPAZ outputs two beam lines and generates high-temperature- and high-pressure plasma for X-ray laser oscillator and amplifier. We demonstrated the first fully-spatial coherent X-ray laser driven by TOPAZ and the wavelength and pulse width are 13.9 nm and 7 ps, respectively (Fig. 1).

Our group is studying widely in field of X-ray laser, in particular, application of X-ray laser, X-ray laser development for high-repetition rate operation, and Development of X-ray optics etc.

Our group is also implementing a collaboration study with RIKEN and Keisokukensa.Co.Ltd. to develop a new remote- and high-speed-inspection method for detection defects inside tunnel-concrete. We are expecting the new inspection method will contribute industrial innovation. This work was supported by Council for Science, Technology and Innovation, “Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP). (funding agency: NEDO)
