Creation of nanoscale ultra sensitive sensors
Crystal defects such as nitrogen-vacancy center (NV) in diamond and silicon vacancy (VSi) in silicon carbide (SiC) act as bright luminescent centers even at room temperature, and they are expected to be applied to quantum technologies e.g. quantum bit (qubit) and quantum sensors. We are developing new technologies to create high quality NV and VSi utilizing electron and ion beams. Thus, we are creating new functions into crystals by destroying perfect ones. In addition, we are trying to measure temperature, magnetic and electric fields in a local area (nanometer scale) in cells and tissues introducing diamond nanoparticles with NV and SiC nanoparticles with VSi into cells/tissues.
