Donations in FY2022  (April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023)

All donations received at QST are managed and operated under the framework of the "QST Future Fund." In FY2022, we received 48 donations totaling 21,829,223 yen, as well as donations of goods (medical protective clothing). We deeply appreciate your generous support.

Achievements of Activities by the Fund

Among the projects and activities carried out with the QST Future Fund in FY2022, we would like to introduce an overview of three significant projects.

  1. COVID-19 Infection Prevention Measures at QST Hospital
  2. Equipment Improvement Project for Public Relations Activities Related to Research Achievements
  3. Development of Quantum Material Manufacturing Process Monitors

1. COVID-19 Infection Prevention Measures at QST Hospital

Implemented by

QST Hospital, Quantum Life and Medical Science Directorate

Overview

We utilized the donations to purchase necessary equipment for COVID-19 infection prevention measures at QST Hospital. These measures included acquiring equipment for pre-admission PCR testing, updating and expanding air purifiers throughout the hospital, and providing pulse oximeters for inpatients.

Words of Appreciation from the Hospital

We sincerely appreciate your generous donation. With your support, we were able to strengthen our infection prevention measures, allowing us to continue providing insurance-covered heavy ion cancer therapy and also fulfill our role as a designated COVID-19 priority medical institution in Chiba Prefecture. Additionally, thanks to the revision of medical service fees in fiscal year 2022, the insurance coverage for heavy ion cancer therapy at QST Hospital has expanded, resulting in increased inquiries from patients. We will continue to implement infection prevention measures and advance heavy ion cancer therapy. We look forward to your continued support.

2.  Equipment Improvement Project for Public Relations Activities Related to Research Achievements

Implemented by

Superconducting Magnet Technology Group, Dept. of ITER Project, Fusion Energy Directorate

Overview

This project aims to facilitate the understanding of the activities and achievements of the Superconducting Magnet Technology Group, which procures superconducting coils for the ITER project, for visitors to the facility and those attending tours. In fiscal year 2022, the donations were used to update poster display stands and to equip a small experimental apparatus.

Words of Appreciation from the Group

Thank you for your support of the ITER project’s public relations activities. With your donation, we were able to purchase new poster display stands and update posters explaining the procurement of superconducting coils. Additionally, we were able to equip a small experimental apparatus to help visitors experience the phenomenon of superconductivity firsthand. Your support has greatly contributed to making our explanations clearer and more engaging for visitors.

3. Development of the Quantum Material Manufacturing Process Monitors

Implemented by

Dept. of Advanced Beam Technology, Takasaki Institute of Advanced Quantum Science, Foundational Quantum Technology Research Directorate

Overview

The Takasaki Ion Accelerators for Advanced Radiation Application (TIARA) facility conducts innovative R&D, including the development of quantum functional materials such as quantum sensors using diamond NV centers, as well as materials for energy, environment, and bio-applications. This project aims to equip the necessary beam monitoring devices for ion beam irradiation, a  fundamental technology. In fiscal year 2022, the donations were used to purchase high-sensitivity cameras and alumina fluorescent screens for monitoring, as well as to upgrade the ion beam monitors in the low-energy and medium-energy ion irradiation chambers within the facility.

Words of Appreciation from the Dept.

Thank you for your support in developing the manufacturing process monitor for quantum materials. With your donation, we were able to upgrade the ion beam monitors in the low-energy and medium-energy ion irradiation chambers at TIARA. This upgrade has significantly reduced the time required for ion beam adjustments, allowing more time for experiments, which has been greatly appreciated by our researchers. We are deeply grateful for your generous contribution.
