2016
Apr
  • The National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology is established as a three-directorate organization consisting of the National Institute of Radiological Sciences (Radiation Medicine R & D Directorate), the Quantum Beam Science Research Directorate, and the Fusion Energy R & D Directorate by integrating the National Institute of Radiological Sciences and Japan Atomic Energy Agency's fusion R & D and quantum beam application research.

  • QST Mirai Lab (Advanced Study Laboratory) established.

2017
Apr
  • Radiation EMergency Assistance cenTer (REMAT) established.
Nov
  • Establishment of a preparatory office for the promotion of high-brightness synchrotron light sources.

2018

  • Establishment of the Diversity Promotion Office and the QST International Research Initiative.
Aug
  • Established the SIP Project Management Office in charge of  the management corporation of the second phase of the national project "Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP)": "Society 5.0 Realization Technology Using Light and Quantum".
Dec
  • Reorganized the preparatory office for the promotion of high-brightness synchrotron light sources, and established the Center for the Institute for Advanced Synchrotron Light Source within the Quantum Beam Science Research Directorate.

2019

Apr

  • In order to play a central and leading role in the five Advanced Radiation Emergency Medical Support Centers in the nuclear emergnecy preparedness and response guidelines formulated by the national government, the Nuclear Regulation Authority designates the QST as the Core Advanced Radiation Emergency Medical Support Center.
  • The Institute for Quantum Life Science was established.
  • The National Institute of Radiological Sciences was reorganized and the Quantum Medical Science Directorate was established. The National Institute of Radiological Sciences, the Center for Advanced Radiation Emergency Medicine, and the QST Hospital (reorganized and renamed from the NIRS Hospital) were established within the directorate.
  • Establishment of the Department of Radiation Emergency MAnagemenT (REMAT), which was a reorganization of the Radiation Emergency Support Center (REMAT) within the Center for Advanced Radiation Emergency Medicine.
  • The Quantum Beam Science Research Directorate was renamed the Quantum Beam Science Directorate.
  • Reorganization of the Fusion Energy Research and Development Directorate into the Fusion Energy Directorate.
  • Establishment of the Department of Financial Affairs.

  • Establishment of QST Innovation Project.

2020
Apr
  • Department of Radiation Emergency MAnagemenT (REMAT) was renamed the Radiation Emergency Medical Assistance Team (REMAT).

2021
Feb
  • The Qauntum Life Sicence Research Hub was established to form the Quantum Innovation Hubs in the "Quantum Technology Innovation Strategy" formulated by the government.
Apr
  • Reorganized the Institute for Quantum Life Science and the Quantum Medical Science Directorate to establish the Quantum Life and Medical Science Directorate. The Institute for Quantum Medical Science, the National Institute of Radiological Sciences, the QST Hospital, and the Institute for Quantum Life Science were established within the directorate.
Jul
  • Opened the Sendai area and relocated the Institute for Advanced Synchrotron Light Source.

Oct
  • The name of the organization (in English) is renamed from

   National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology to

   National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology.

  • Establishment of the Quantum Materials and Applications Research Center.

  • Quantum Life Science Building completed.

  • Start of the second medium- to long-term plan.
