QST is actively promoting cooperation and collaboration with international organizations, foreign universities and foreign institutions in pursuit of “quantum medical science” such as heavy ion cancer radiotherapy and radiation effects, “quantum life science” to understand life, “quantum materials science” with quantum beams and “nuclear fusion science” to realize humanity's ultimate energy source.

Regarding the cooperation with the international organizations, QST sends experts to several international meetings of UNSCEAR (the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation) and the ICRP (the International Commission on Radiological Protection) on radiation safety, radiation emergency medicine and the international radiation protection standards as Japan’s core institute in these fields.

As a research institute on radiology science representing Japan, QST is also engaged in disseminating research results and exchange of human resources through activities as a collaborating centre designated by the IAEA (the International Atomic Energy Agency) and the WHO (the World Health Organization) and participation in the projects of the FNCA (the Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia) and FARO (the Federation of Asian Organizations for Radiation Oncology).

QST is also collaborating with the ITER Organization, which is responsible for the construction of the experimental fusion reactor, ITER, to promote international nuclear fusion R&D.
