The ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Japan visited QST-NIRS on 18 Nov with the vice-president of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and the dean of the medical faculty of Vilnius University to discuss the possibility of academic exchanges between the two universities and NIRS.

Dr. Noda, managing director of NIRS, Dr. Shimada, executive director of NIRS, and other researchers joined the meeting and both Lithuanian universities and NIRS introduced the features of their research activities. After the meeting, the visitors inspected cutting-edge medical equipment, such as the superconducting rotating gantry for heavy-ion therapy and high-sensitivity helmet PET system, that is expected to enable earlier diagnosis of conditions such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease.
