[Press Release] National Strategy Zone in Chiba; The first trainee will arrive―The foreign oncologist will start training of Carbon Ion Radiotherapy at NIRS/QST―

  • Carbon Ion Radiotherapy (hereinafter CIRT) from Japan awaken the interests of many foreign countries.
  • The training of previous foreign oncologists was almost short and the content of the training was restricted.The possibility of the training has expanded by this framework of the National Strategy Zone in Chiba City.

 Chiba city’s proposal to the National Strategic Special Zones for foreign oncologists’ training program has been approved in May 2017.NIRS-QST collaborates with Chiba City and accepts the first trainee from 15 May 2018.
 The trainee (physician) belongs to Tata Medical Center (hereinafter Tata) in Kolkata City, India, one of India state-of-the-art hospitals.In 2016, when the Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology Hase (at the time) introduced CIRT to India government.The India government nominated Tata to be the medical institution responsible for the investigation of this technology.Since then, Tata has entered into the cooperation agreement with NIRS-QST when Prime Minister Abe visited India in 2017.Today, Tata is planning for introducing CIRT into India.  This training is a part of preparations for a future plan.
 Recently two press releases announced that Japanese CIRT machines are exported to the Asia. It awakens an interest of foreign oncologists.It is expected that more oncologists will visit to NIRS-QST for the training and such visits support the wide propagation of CIRT.
