A draft genome of the striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus)

abstract
The striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus), which belongs to Pangasiidae family, is native to Mekong river (Vietnam, Cambodia, Lao and Thailand). The species is successfully cultured, especially in the Mekong river delta. Vietnam is the world’s largest producer of P. hypophthalmus, with an estimated 1.1 million mt being cultured on farming area of more than 5,000 hectares. Therefore, genome analyses of the P. hypophthalmus become important issues in Vietnam. Here we report deep sequencing of catfish genome by using Illumina platform. These data are important resource for genetic breeding program of this fish.
