On 21 April 2016, a ceremony took place to celebrate major milestones of the Linear IFMIF Prototype Accelerator (LIPAc) in Rokkasho Fusion Institute.

The Linear IFMIF Prototype Accelerator (LIPAc) aims at validating the acceleration of the world-record beam current, which will lead to the production of neutron sources for the fusion materials irradiation tests. Neutron sources are the resources indispensable for the construction of DEMO. This ceremony is to commemorate the successful accomplishment of the first acceleration of our injection beam accelerator. IFMIF/EVEDA has moved on to the next stage: the installation of the radio frequency accelerator and radio frequency resources, where the second acceleration is carried out. About 150 guests were invited to the ceremony from outside and inside the country in order to celebrate this major advancement of this research activity.
After the greetings from Toshio Hirano, president of QST, we received celebration and encouraging messages from representatives of European embassies and organizations which we implement research activities together with, and also from concerned parties including MEXT, Aomori Prefecture, and Rokkasho-village.
