Remote Plasma Analyses of JT-60U Plasmas with Data Link and Video Conference Systems from PPPL and LANL

Remote analyses of JT-60 plasmas with aids of Data Link System (DLS) and video conference system have been demonstrated successfully from both Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), under the Implementing Agreement on Co-operation among the Three Large Tokamak Facilities as well as the US-Japan Fusion Collaboration Agreement.

This demonstration has been performed by using the prototype of DLS prepared to exchange the JT-60 experimental data access by remote participants via INTERNET. Video conference system helps researchers in both countries to analyze the experimental data as if they are working in a single laboratory. Full operation of DLS will begin in October of this year.

The success in remote analysis and remote diagnostics (see this report No.30 in the last year) has established a big milestone toward the realization of the Remote Laboratory where the collaborated laboratories are mutually connected by a computer network. Enhancement of the network capability is essential to extend further the Remote Laboratory function in the future.
