Fast Wave Current Drive Study

Improvement of confinement by current profile control and steady-state tokamak operation

Traveling wave antenna (Combline antenna)
Collaboration with General Atomics

  • Sharp directivity with 12 current straps
  • No need for phase adjustment per individual current strap

Combline antenna installed in the JFT-2M vacuum vessel
Combline antenna installed in the JFT-2M vacuum vessel

Experimental results

  • No need for impedance matching from vacuum- to plasma loading
Right arrow demonstration of fast wave pre-ionization
  • No problem of mismatching on H-transition and ELMs

Negative shear experiments will be performed in combination with electron cyclotron heating.
