What is the JT-60U NBI?
The neutral beam injection into the JT-60U has been progressed with two systems, one is a positive-ion based NBI and another is a negative-ion based NBI.
The positive-ion based NBI system for JT-60U, which has already injected 40MW at 90keV with deuterium, is composed of 14 beamline units, 14 ion source power supplies, a liquid heliun and liquid nitrogen refrigeration system, cooling water system, an auxiliary vacuum pumping system and a control system including computer control.
The negative-ion based NBI system, which is aiming at 10MW at 500keV, is composed of one beamline mounted two ion sources, a set of high voltage power supply. The auxiliary subsystems such as refrigeration system are used in common with the positive-ion NBI.
