Purposes and Frequency Ranges of JT-60 RF Heating System The JT-60 radio frequency (RF) heating system is to heat plasma or to drive plasma currents by using radio frequency (electromagnetic) waves.
There are three different frequency types in the JT-60 RF heating system for various purposes. One of largest ECRF heating systems in the world was developed in 2001, and it has showed its powerful heating ability in generating high electron temperature plasmas, stably sustaining high performance plasmas and so on.

  1. ICRF Heating System (Frequency 102 - 130 MHz, Power 10 MW)
    • Central Heating of High Density Plasmas
    • Generation of High Energy Ions
  2. LHRF Heating System (Frequency 1.7 - 2.2 GHz, Power 12 MW)
    • Drive of High Plasma Currents
    • Control of Minor Radial Profile of Plasma Current
  3. ECRF Heating System (Frequency 110 GHz, Power 4 MW )
    • Local Electron Heating and Current Drive
    • High Efficient Electron Heating in a Wide Density Range
