We strongly recommend hotels near Kyoto Station, in particular, the south side so that you can access the JR Obaku station near Uji campus by one train, unless you are familiar with the local transport in Kyoto. That period is a season for the entrance exam for national universities (25-26, Feb.), so it is better to reserve them as early as possible.
