We will develop the world's highest performance laser technology on its own and open up a new scientific field by conducting academic research that is possible only after using it. Furthermore, we actively utilize the new technology born there, and make it useful for industry and medical care. For this purpose, we are conducting research on high-intensity laser science research, X-ray laser research, ultrafast optical property study as three pillars.
Development of the world’s top class high-intensity laser (J-KAREN-P)
We are engaged in the development of the world’s top class high-intensity laser. We have been able to achieve an ultra-high power of 1000 trillion watts by confining a laser energy of 30 J within the time of 30 femtoseconds (1 femtosecond=a 1000 trillionth’s of a second).

Development of new scientific fields by high-intensity lasers
With high-intensity lasers we are conducting research on compact accelerators of the future. It is possible to realize compact accelerators with the possibility for applications and also particle beam cancer therapy equipment with high-intensity lasers (J-KAREN) by the development of new acceleration methods "laser acceleration technology".
By using plasma produced by the high-intensity laser, it is possible to accelerate to a high-energy ions over a short distance.
