Scope of Seminar

To clarify the various phenomena of the physics -high-field science- (PHFS) which occur under the high focused intensity made possible by the emergence of high-power lasers, problems along the three axes of theory, numerical calculations, and experiments have been identified. We will consider the difficulties involved in conducting demonstration experiments and investigate approaches to solve them. The target will be to formulate a high-intensity physics roadmap which gives a bird's-eye view of what can be achieved today, from 1023 W/cm2, which can be reached today to 1024 W/cm2, which can be achieved in a few years. This seminar will also contribute to the education of young researchers and students by gathering researchers working at the forefront of this high intensity field from around the world.

Topics

 A. High Intensity Radiation Reaction Regime

  • Theoretical Predictions
  • Numerical Predictions
  • Current and Future Planned Experiments

 B. Approaching Vacuum Breakdown ―Breakthrough New Technology―

  • Relativistic Flying Mirror
  • Micro-bubble Implosion
  • Thin film Laser Compression

 C. Physics by Ultrahigh Intensity Fields

  • Pair Creation
  • Polarization of the Vacuum
  • Photon-photon scattering
  • Non-perturbative Quantum Electrodynamics
  • Dark Matter/Dark Energy
  • Barriers and Problems

 D. Problems in Theory

  • Problems in Numerical Computation
  • Problems in Experiments due to the Laser (Pre-pulse, Contrast, Jitter problems, Evaluation of focused intensity, Laser stability)
  • Problems related to Measurements (High Intensity Gamma-ray Measurements, Noise, etc…)

Seminar style

The Seminar is supported by the Fujihara Foundation of Science.
All the participants are encouraged to participate all the days and stay at the same hotel (we have prepared some rooms at the Grand Nikko Awaji at the venue site) and have close discussions with each other during the session, breaks, and free time. Thus, the Seminar is in person only.
The Seminar has a single session. No parallel session is considered. We also have a poster session together with a company exhibition.
