The 8th Asian Summer (Momiji) School & Symposium on Laser Plasma Acceleration and Radiation (ASSS-8)

Welcome to ASSS-8

We are honored to invite you to the 8th Asian Summer (Momiji) School and Symposium on Laser-Plasma Acceleration and Radiation (ASSS-8), which will take place Nov 26-29, 2018, at Kansai Photon Science Institute (Kizugawa, Kyoto) and Nara Kasugano International Forum (Nara), Japan.

The ASSS was started in 2006 to promote the research and the applications of laser-plasma particle acceleration and radiation in Asian countries by training young scientists from this region. Since the ASSS-1 in Beijing, it has been held in Nara, Gwangju, Hsinchu, Shanghai, Kyoto and Shanghai. It provides an excellent forum for graduate students, post-doctoral and other young researchers to learn and exchange the most recent research activities.

The ASSS-8 is organized by the Kansai Photon Science Institute (KPSI) of National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology (QST) with the support of Asian Intense Laser Network (AILN). In ASSS-8, the summer school will be held at KPSI on Nov.26th and 27th, and the Symposium entitled "Frontier of Quantum Beam Science with High Power Lasers" will be held in Nara Kasugano International Forum on Nov. 28th and 29th (http://www.kansai.qst.go.jp/qst2018-en//soshiki/detail.php?lif_id=2857). The symposium hall is located in Nara historical park, around 5 km from KPSI.

The topics of the summer school and symposium this year include:

  1. Laser-driven electron and ion acceleration
  2. Laser-driven novel sources (neutron, radiation, etc)
  3. Attosecond and higher harmonic generation
  4. Extreme high field physics
  5. Plasma Instability
  6. Advanced numerical modeling methods
  7. High-power laser technologies
  8. High-power laser applications

The school will invite well-known experts in these research fields to give a series of lectures on the above topics. Poster sessions as well as tours of high power laser facilities and physics laboratories will be arranged for participants to further knowledge exchange.

We are looking forward to seeing you in November in Japan!

For students from overseas:
Accommodation and meals during the stay can be covered by the local organizing committee if you need. (see below)
However, it is necessary to participate in all the ASSS-8 schedule and to present at the poster session on 28th November.
