化学反応から生物学的応答へと結びつく反応過程を探索する研究
電離放射線は分子から電子をはじき出す(電離する)ことができます。電子を失った分子(活性分子種)は、周囲の別の分子から電子を奪ってもとの安定な状態に戻ろうとします。水中では水分子の電離に伴ってヒドロキシルラジカル、水素ラジカル、更にそれらの反応に伴ってスーパーオキサイドや過酸化水素などの活性分子種が生じます。それらの活性分子種が引き金となって生じる連鎖的酸化還元(レドックス)反応の進行過程を解析することにより、細胞・生体応答へ続く反応の道筋を模索します。活性分子種の同定と定量、およびそれらの初期生成密度の解析、それらにより誘導される反応の可能性に基づいて、線質効果の機構解明を目指すとともに、放射線障害の分子機構を探ります。活性分子種の化学的消去と、細胞や生体応答へ繋がる化学反応の抑止を試み、放射線生物影響の制御を図ります。
